I'm still baking in California's central valley. I'm here to report a news story, and I'm surrounded by hundreds of acres of peach and grape orchards.
Quick update: I just found out that my grandfather died. He was almost 89 years old. His funeral is sometime this weekend or early next week. So instead of flying back to Washington, D.C. on Sunday as I had planned, I'm leaving mid-week. Tomorrow I'm heading down to metro Los Angeles, where the funeral will be held. I have little black with me - I have summer whites and pinks - but I'm sure my grandfather would appreciate having some color at this dolorous affair. Type to you later.
