Behind Schedule

E. left Washington on our cross-country road trip not at 11 a.m yesterday, as we had planned, but 3:30 p.m. His excuses were that packing and doing errands took longer than he thought, and he also had to run to the store to buy a few last-minute things. Oh, and he stopped intermittently to film his preparations for the trip (he bought a digital videocamera).

So last night at 9:30, he called. He wasn't in Englewood, OH, which is 7 1/2 hours west of Washington and where we booked a hotel for him and Nelson for the night. That's where he needed to be in order to get to Fayetteville, AR, by Thursday morning so he can pick me up from the NW Arkansas Regional Airport. I'm leaving on an early-a.m flight tomorrow.

Instead, he was just outside of Pittsburgh, still 3 1/2 hours east of Englewood. Huh. I was worried and a little frustrated. I gave him the number of a friend that lives in Zanesville, OH, which is 1 hour and 40 minutes west. I'm hoping E. called him and asked if he could stay the night. But I'm not sure. That's the last I heard from him.

I'll try to call him this morning, but he has the maddening habit (though I do it as well) of turning off his cell phone.

Running Update: It was spitting rain yesterday, so I logged 5 miles (with a 2 percent grade to make it more difficult) on the hamstermill. On Monday, I ran 3.5 miles fast and lifted upper-body weights. Today it's going to be another quick work-out: 3.5 miles at race pace, then weights.
