Cold Beer ... Dirty Girls

As posted on the Frontier Hotel & Casino's billboard, ensconced on Frank Sinatra Drive, hard by the I-15.

Mes amis: Thanks very much for the birthday greetings! They warmed the cockles of my cold little heart.

I'm still in Vegas. And yep, back in the library, though not the exciting strip club of the same name. I'm here for another 7 1/2 hours, then we're taking the red eye back to the east coast.

A few impressions before I head out into the 107 degree heat: On a lark, my SO played blackjack at the $3 tables at the Golden Gate Casino yesterday. He started with $20 and won $120 in about 20 minutes. Then we high-tailed it out of there before we lost it. We're going back downtown to win more money (I say, with bravado) this evening.

The Cirque de Soleil's "O" was amazing. The acrobats and other performers are almost superhuman in terms of flexibility, strength, and artistry. I also saw "Spirit of the Dance" at the Golden Nugget: enthusiastic young hoofers in spangly outfits and thankfully only one painfully-embarrassing, cringe-inducing number. More on that later as well.

Ate dinner at Simon Kitchen and Bar in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for my birthday: steak tartare with prosciutto carpaccio as a starter, and a very rare ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and baby bok choy. I'm glad I'm on top of the food chain.

The librarian is tapping her watch and eyeing the last of us computer stragglers. Type to you back in Washington.

  2. Ah, the Golden Gate. The piano player, the atmosphere, the cheap blackjack, the eager drink service ...

  3. I'm drooling at this:

"...steak tartare with prosciutto carpaccio as a starter, and a very rare ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and baby bok choy."
