Flab-o-matic

Suck in that gut!: I haven't run or lifted weights in several days because of an exhausting cold and several late nights at work. Now I feel like a big fat slab of butter. Tomorrow's agenda is a 4-mile interval run, then 30-45 minutes of free weights and crunches. However, I walk at least 2.5 miles a day, to and from the Metro. That's gotta count for something, right?!

Doggie Update #3: I'm getting a dog by Christmas, damn it, and no one's going to stop me.

Barf-inducing Holiday Letters: Y'know those treacly, braggadocio Christmas letters, a.k.a. "Junior scored 1600 on the SATs, Susie discovered the cure to cancer in her second year of med school, and the Hubby and I scaled Mt. Everest with our hands tied our backs?" kind of missives?

Well, the Wall Street Journal had an interesting story yesterday about how more people are now writing more realistic and sobering holiday letters. These holiday notes talk about job challenges, personal setbacks, and the like. Perhaps that's a bit too much reality for some people, but I applaud the trend.

I don't write Christmas letters, but if I did, I'd keep 'em short and sweet: Still employed. Still engaged. Still alive. Merry Christmas. Love, Bex.

  1. Hi Bex,
I hope you get over that cold soon! At least you're out there running and lifting weights. I have to get my fat butt off the couch and start working out myself! Too much buffet food - LOL!

  2. Do count those miles to the Metro,of course! I hope the dog works out for you soon. I want one, too, but I've got to move first.

  3. I agree! Those 'My family is so awesome' letters where they mention that little Timmy is taking karate and he's six kill me. Please email me one of the more realistic ones. You may just have inspired a blog for me where I do one of my own!
