One foot in front of the other ....

Ran with A. in the soupy, languor-inducing heat yesterday morning. At 8:45, it was already well over 90 degrees, and I felt the sunscreen sliding down my nose before I even ran one step. Damn. But I felt strong, and was on track to run 8 miles at a brisk pace. A. was having trouble with her left knee, though. So we called it a day at 6 miles. To compensate, I ran the last 1/2 mile at 85 percent effort. It felt wonderful to stretch my legs.

On a roll: Today I took a lunchtime kick-boxing class (tough!), warming up with a 1.25 mile jaunt on the treadmill at a 10 percent incline. Maybe I've had too much coffee lately, but I may run 3 miles tonight and lift weights for my arms, chest and back. I think I can do both the run and the weight-lifting in little over an hour.

Committed:
I signed up for the Army 10-Miler a few minutes ago. So guess there's no turning back now.

File under Too Much Information:
My feet are totally whacked out, especially my left one. And my fourth toenail is completely beat-up. Anyone who runs regularly knows what that looks like. That's right: Eeeeuw. Makes it hard for a girl to wear strappy sandals. But I do anyway, appearances be damned. If you don't like how it looks, turn away.

  1. Wow, sounds like the heat agrees with you, Bex. Good news. I think I do better in the cold.

I think I've been lucky and haven't had my toes messed up yet, although I suspect marathon mileage is going to do that. Can't hide it with nail polish either.

  2. Can you send some of that extra energy my way?

I'm going to be in DC for the 4th of July. Do you usually go check out the fireworks? Would you want to meet up? You can email me if you want to discuss further.
