The Self thing is just beyond sick. I used to like Shape magazine because they had these great success stories that NEVER involved saying how many pounds a woman lost. It was about facing down demons and committing to healthy living. Then Weider bought the magazine and now it is just another neuroses inducing effort to enslave us to numbers and make us feel guilty for not being perfect.
The other thing of note is that Catherine McPhee has an eating disorder that has been widely discussed. When she was on AI she weighed more. Now they need to ADD size to her on this magazine cover.
It all makes me ill. I cry inside for McPhee and how neurotic she must feel about her body.
amen. i've seen katherine mcphee in person. she is frighteningly skinny.
i stopped reading women's magazines long ago. they never had anything for my body type, my skin color, my lifestyle. plus they're all the same and regurgitate al the same shit year after year. why pay to make myself feel like crap?
That's why I like Runner's World - please tell me they don't engage in rampant photoshopping!

Runner's World does do touch-ups, at least to some cover photos. But I doubt they try to plump up the models because they tend to look anorexic to me.
ReplyDeletehate women's magazines. but i really need to learn photoshop!
ReplyDeleteAMEN, sistahs! I don't read those mags anymore b/c every time I did, I got an "ice cream" headache from all the saccharine crap in those publications.
ReplyDeleteUm, you're not going after runner's world next, are you?
