Fall Down, Go Boom

I didn't go to my track workout tonight. I was lazy, and just wanted to do an easy 5-miler with E. and our spoiled dog, Nelson. But I should have.

Because apparently, I can't talk and run at the same time. At Mile 3, I was so engrossed in conversation that I didn't notice how the sidewalk rose up into a hillock, the result of a nearby tree's burgeoning roots. And I tripped.

And fell, cutting my right knee a bit (EXACTLY where I gashed my knee a year and a half ago in the National Marathon), badly sprained my index and third fingers on my right hand trying to break my fall, and scraped up my right shoulder. Sheesh.

I lay there for a few minutes, my right cheek resting on the cool pavement as my heart hammered in my chest. I listened to the evening traffic whoosh by us, and saw E. hovering above me anxiously. He was very sweet, wanting to walk me home after we figured out I didn't break anything.

But damn it, I had already wimped out on the track workout. So I got up ... and we finished the run. Now everything hurts.

RBF Meet-up!: But in more important matters, Anne and I met up for lunch yesterday in her 'hood. She works within spitting distance of Torrey Pines State Reserve and Beach, truly one of the most jaw-dropping gorgeous places on this green earth.

I was down in San Diego for the San Diego Asian Film Festival, and I thought it would be great to meet in person. And Anne is such an engaging, thoughtful and nice person, that we talked easily and our hour-long lunch flew by.

I love the Internet. Think of all the cool runners and other people you wouldn't know otherwise! It makes me a tiny bit more patient when dealing with the SPAM
flooding my email in-box telling me how to enlarge my penis or why I should invest in African real estate.

  3. The word klutz comes to mind but I am not sure why.

You are a hard core runner, for sure.

What do we need to know about you with your tolerance for THAT kind of spam? Does it have to do with California living?

  5. You have to run hard to fall hard. No one gets a trophy pic like that by sitting on their a$$.
